The Creature Created Forgetful
Me.
Where did it go?
You seek forgiveness
With a racing mind
And quickened heart
Recalling one by one
The slides on the slideshow
Of promises you have made
And should have kept
To lead and serve
To be diligent and on time
To be a good sister, daughter, friend
To be patient and gracious
To represent God’s religion
To worship Him.
And somehow always along the way
This most simple of promises
Slips and obscures
Behind the deliberate distractions
In front of our eyes in the mirror
Time and time again
The same pitiful regret
Clouds your heart
As the tears blur your eyes
The lessons learned
The never-agains
The bitterness and pain of being fooled twice
Stings and stings again
And above the heavens
Sits
The Pardoner, the Most Forgiving
The Ever-Pardoning, the Relenting
The Forgiving, Exceedingly Forgiving
The All and Oft-Forgiving
The Most Appreciative
The Most Kind
The All-Seeing
Ordering angels
To wipe and erase
To cover and hide
The mistakes
That you too bury
In the folds of your heart as time passes.
