Spoken Noise

the unspeakable has been spoken
everything has been said out loud
nothing too shameful for words

nothing delivered with sugarcoating
no need to let one down gently
when the bottom line is bare-faced tragedy

pain is taunted to show itself
raw and unprimed
to make an appearance every day
in the actions of broken people
constantly crying louder and louder still

searching the void
for some semblance of a beating heart
and in its certain absence
for some flesh to consume (to chew, to violate)

mouth bloodied
and stomach full of human meat
the noise quietens for a short while

until
that dreadful, aching, vulgar hunger
strikes again
eager to devour all in its path

roaring that same
unspeakable but spoken noise

Poetry is wonderful in its abstraction and potential for personal interpretation. This is perfect for artists who think the world is a riddle — the poem serves as scrap paper for the rough workings of a problem solver.

What do you think this poem is about? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
